jet lag and post election lag

So....midnight here in Thailand, after about almost 30 hours of travel... 12 hours ahead of Detroit,  and I'm wide awake, at least last night I slept for awhile before being wide awake at 1:00 a.m.  I made the mistake of sleeping today from 10am to 2 pm... But I was sooooool tired, I couldn't resist. I'm someone who taked 2 weeks to recover from the 1 hour daylight savings change! So, maybe new tactics tomorrow... No sleep until the evening.

Last night I was also reeling from the election results, it still feels like it's not real. Been on fb more just to stay connected to folks.  Not even sure what to say right now.
We found out from the owner of the guesthouse where we are staying.  We tried to explain how bad it is, she reminded us of some ways we are luckier than them with our rights and privileges, agreed, but still... Even those might change now. Already have heard stories of people acting out.... It feels difficult to be away from home right now....

I'm slowly adjusting to being in a new place language climate food time zone culture and once again being one of privilege... Of having a dollar that goes as far as it does, of being able to figure out having this time off to do this, and I notice how it makes me uncomfortable also.

It's also really my first time in awhile not having any of the language, it took me years with Spanish, but it makes travel so much easier, it allows one to connect with people. So I am learning to communicate without words, learning a few words here and there, and I notice too how uncomfortable i am not understanding or being understood. But it happens in English also, sometimes we just want to be heard, understood, listened to. But I don't travel to be comfortable, I don't go to all inclusive resorts to sip cocktails on the beach, I travel to push myself, to learn, to grow, to love.

Also it looks like our first workaway work exchange with the 2 sisters on their farm fell through. They said yes, and now aren't responding to our messages so we'll try to find another. I trust it is leaving us open for something different.  More than anything we do this as a way to connect with people, learn about their culture, and save a little money, but mostly it's about the connection and being of service.

We're heading off to an island that sounds like a good place for us....yoga, chi gong, trance dance and Watsu, the aquatic bodywork we will be studying in India later on.
